I must say I had big expectations of this book, primarily because I feel attracted to the Balkans and their folklore, as well as to the legend of Vlad Țepeș. However, I cannot say I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. I did not like how it ends, I would have wished something more "powerful".
Nevertheless,
this is a novel I would recommend, just for the pleasure of having an
insight into some details of the Ottoman Empire as well as of the
communist block. The architectonical descriptions are delightful and the
narrative is so vivid.
"The
Historian" is a historic novel written in first person, which tells the
story of a young girl and his parents, through the search and hunt of
Dracula, the sovereign of Wallachia, 'the impaler'. Through memories,
letters and present actions, the story is written beautifully and shows a
tremendous historic research.
After
reading the book you will definitely want to know more about the Ottoman
Empire and Constaninople, and about Romania and its countryside. This
book is a trigger.

También está disponible la versión en español.
Una
novela contada en primera persona, diversos personajes, diversos
paisajes, diversas peripecias. "La Historiadora" es sin duda un libro
para aquellos interesados no sólo en la leyenda de Drácula, sino en
aquella parte del mundo llamada Europa del Este.
El libro es una introducción y un acercamiento al imperio otomano y a la existencia de Vlad Dracul a lo largo de los años.
